Facebook bans political ads indefinitely
Facebook is being criticized by thousands, if not millions. The biggest of Facebook’s flaws is allowing monstrous flows of misinformation in every field of its social news. But the biggest awareness is given to political misinformation, which highly worries officials in the US. So, inside Facebook, is has been decided that it would ban any kind of political advertising right after the local US polls are over on November 3, 2020. The ban is introduced indefinitely (until a new regulatory mechanism is introduced). This solution is to temporarily diminish misinformation in the field, whilst leaving the rest of the fields still exposed to misinformation and lying news.
Will the company ever improves its algorithms to define and ban fake news? Unlikely, though, as, according to one of social media research, fake news brings 5 times bigger engagement of the audience than the real news. The reason lies in human psychology – the real news is boring.
The step will likely limit manipulation with elections and will allow no other countries, including Russia, to intervene with the US election results. That awareness was broadened in 2016 when Mr. Zuckerberg failed to restrict Russian Ops from intruding into the US elections, which has been widely speculated here and there ever since then.
